My brothers and sisters....As I reflect on my journey to Washington DC to participate in the 36th annual March for Life, I recall two things which stood out for me in particular, and interestingly, neither one occurred during this event, but before and after. As I was riding on the subway to the National Mall where thousands of people would gather, I saw a woman board my train; in her hand was a PRO-LIFE sign which she would use during the rally and march, and on the lapel of her trench coat was a large brass and enamel multicolored pin with an artful rendering of President Obama and the word VICTORY! on the front. Now, hold this image for a moment while I continue to the next image....(see below)

(continued from above) .... I had arranged to meet an old friend for a bite to eat that evening, after the day’s events had drawn to a close. I traveled again by subway to another part of the City and after a long tiring journey I entered the upscale NW DC establishment that my friend runs and made the acquaintance of the barkeep who shook my hand and asked if I was in town for the festivities. Indeed, in the city of Washington DC, there seemed at times to be a giddy, somewhat festive attitude in the air, stemming largely form the events surrounding Mr. Obama’s inauguration on Tuesday. I assumed that the barkeep was referring to these festivities and not to the reason for my visit to our nation’s Capital. Regardless, these two brief moments have stuck in my mind about that day and I fi nd them hard to shake. VICTORY! … festivities? No matter who you may have voted for in this election and no matter your opinions one way or another, Mr. Obama is indeed our new President. May God protect him and preserve him for many years. No doubt there will be some positive outcomes while he is in office and may the Lord guide his every move. However, there is clearly NO VICTORY when our nation’s most voiceless, those preborn citizens of the USA face the very real likelihood of assault. This assault is in the form of the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (F.O.C.A.) which Mr. Obama has promised will be an early priority of his administration. The Freedom of Choice Act is perhaps the most radical social legislation in decades. Briefly, F.O.C.A. is a bill that would invalidate any statute, ordinance, regulation, administrative order, decision, practice or policy of any federal, state or local government or governmental official that would deny or interfere with an abortionist performing an abortion (PFHL Newsletter)

This year marks the 36th anniversary of the beginning of the American Holocaust, the 1973 Roe v’ Wade decision making abortion legal in all 50 states. This also marks 36 years of grueling hard won and hard fought efforts to reverse this decision. And with the stroke of a pen these victories stand to be wiped away. In a moment, Mr. Obama has the ability to undo any limit, restriction or measure currently in place to prevent abortion and to usher in a new era where abortion on demand to anyone anywhere will be as easy and hassle free as buying a cheeseburger. VICTORY? Festivities? What are we celebrating if the most helpless people in our nation are under brutal attack? There have been many hot issues in this election, and there always will be in any election. This is part of the beauty of the democratic process. But my brothers and sisters, Human Life is NOT an issue. HUMAN LIFE IS EVERYTHING. We pray during our liturgical services for our President. Let us pray in earnest for Mr. Obama, both in Church and in our own personal prayer life that his heart will be softened and that the Holy Spirit will enlighten him to the value of every human life, that he not sign this F.O.C.A. into law. This would indeed be a VICTORY! May our merciful God grant President Obama many years, and may HE grant rest and memory eternal to the soul of every child ever murdered in the womb anywhere.  With love, I am your unworthy servant.
