On Thursday, January 22, 2009, Orthodox Christian clergy and faithful from across the US gathered in Washington, DC, for the 36th annual March for Life.
The March for Life began at 12:00 noon on the National Mall. Orthodox Christians taking part in the March gatherd under the large "Orthodox Christians for Life" banner.
Among the religious leaders who addressed the marchers on Capitol Hill at the Rally before the March was His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, and His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania.
On Thursday evening, January 22, Metropolitan Jonah gave the invocation at the March for Life's annual Rose Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Washington.
On the eve of the March, Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 7:00 PM, a Vespers services was celebrated at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, DC, with special prayers for the preservation of the sanctity of all human life.
